2025 BugGuide Gathering
July 19-27 (National Moth Week)
Pitkin, Louisiana

General Info

Charles Allen: We are scheduling mothing and other insect events at Allen Acres during the National Moth week July 19-27 2025.  We have 19 250 watt mercury vapor lights over a white duck cloth sheet.  The 19 light and sheet setups are scattered over our 26 acres property.  We are adjacent to the Kisatchie National Forest and about 1/4 mile from the Ouiska Chitto Creek.  The number of ided moths is 1124 including 32 sphinx and the total of other insects (non-moth) is 686.  We also have recorded 548 plant species 212 fungi, 67 birds, 74 butterflies and numbers for most organisms.

We will turn the lights on near dark each night and off after daylight the following morning.  You are welcome to walk along the trails at night and also during the day. The 19 mercury vapor lights and sheets are scattered across the property along a one mile trail.  We hope to submit all findings to National Moth Week.
